Our Lady of Lourdes

lourdesFeast of Our Lady of Lourdes – World Day of Prayer for the Sick Saturday February 11, 2017 February 11th is the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and marks the first apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1858 to fourteen-year-old Marie Bernade (St. Bernadette) Soubirous. Between February 11 and July 16, 1858, the Blessed Virgin appeared eighteen times, and showed herself to St. Bernadette in the hollow of the rock at Lourdes. On March 25 she declared to Bernadette: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Since then Lourdes has become a place of pilgrimage and many cures and conversions have taken place. World Day of Prayer for the Sick On 13th May 1992 Pope John Paul II instituted the World Day of the Sick to be held each year on the Feast of Our lady of Lourdes as “a special time of prayer and sharing.” This celebration is a reminder to pray for all those who are sick and to recognise and honour those who work in health care and those who serve as caregivers. As we pray for our family and friends who are ill, let us not forget to pray for all sick people the world over. I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame” (Job 29:15) ANOINTING OF SICK WILL TAKE PLACE DIRECTLY AFTER MORNING MASS ON SATURDAY 11TH. 9.30am
